Himalayan region’s traditional architecture was the true representative of its natural beauty and grace says bollywood
choreographer Saroj Khan, while criticising the present construction trends in Kashmir.
She regretted the current trends in construction modes raging in the valley over the past two decades, and said that steel-and-concrete structures were no compatible with the region’s landscape.
“The wood-and-brick houses of old times used to have delicate latticework in windows,” she said. “Twenty four years ago you could see masterpieces of such construction all around. All that there is today are concrete monstrosities.”
Bollywood actors and producers had spent decades shooting in Western locales, but there was no place as enchanting as Kashmir.
Kashmir is the ultimate destination for film-makers, she said. Its natural beauty and scenic landscape are a suitable backdrop for movies. Kashmir is the place where you can actually feel your dreams not just see them.
“The present trends are like a burden on Kashmir’s fragile beauty,” she said.
