Karnataka to get power from NTPCs Kudgi plant

Karnataka to get power from NTPCs Kudgi plantThe state of Karnataka will get 50% of the 2,400 MW of power as its share from NTPC’s thermal plant at Kudgi in Bijapur district.      


“Karnataka will get 50 per cent of the power produced at Kudgi and the remaining will be distributed among the other southern States of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry,” said Arup Roy Chaudhury, NTPC's Chairman and Managing Director.


India’s largest power producer, NTPC plans to produce 4,000 MW in phases. In first phase, three units with a capacity of 800 MW each will be set up at an estimated cost of Rs 15,166 crore. In the second phase, two units with 800 MW capacity each will come up.


NTPC has signed an agreement with two machinery supplies — Toshiba of Japan and Doosan of Korea — for the project. In the first phase, the company is buying equipment worth Rs 6,087 crore.


A total of 162 cusec of water will be supplied to the plant from the Almatti reservoir. In the first phase, the project would need 13 million tonnes of coal per annum which will be transported by rail route from Jharkhand.
