The Opposition party in Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) on Wednesday, raised objection to one of standing committee’s proposal on resurfacing and repairing of roads in the new west zone.
As per the proposal, the work on the Rs 12.87 crore project could be allotted to Akash infrastructure Ltd. The opposition party questioned why the ruling party should allot this work to Akash again when it did not satisfactorily accomplish the task last year.
Badruddin Shaikh, leader of opposition party stated, “Last year too, the work was allotted to Akash Infrastructure at a cost of Rs 14 crore. However, the contractor was unable to complete the work in the stipulated time period. Work of only Rs 4 crore was completed within the time period. The rest is still pending.”
This firm has also been allotted the work of completion of model roads. Even that work is proceeding at a very slow pace, stated Shaikh. He further said that the civic body should have learnt its lesson and ensured the work was allotted to another contractor.
