The Planning Commission on Monday sanctioned a plan outlay of Rs 14,000 crore for Punjab for 2012-13. The state outlay was finalised by Montek Singh Ahluwalia, Deputy Chairman of the Commission and Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal in New Delhi.
Badal said that the government will focus on development of infrastructure in power, roads, rural water supply, sanitation and sewage treatment plants in municipal areas in this annual plan. Ahluwalia appreciated the efforts of the state to improve fiscalhealth and initiatives targeted at giving boost to health and education sector.
They also discussed the issue of water management in the state as Punjab suffers from water logging in some districts particularly bordering Rajasthan besides falling water table elsewhere.
Besides, the Planning Commission has decided to set up a committee for dealing with water issues in the Department of Science & Technology.
