Chandru Lachmandas Raheja
Mr. Chandru L. Raheja, Chairman, K.Raheja Corp is the son of Lachman Das Raheja, founder of the K Raheja Group in 1956. An intensely private person, Mr. Raheja has rarely courted the limelight. Born and bought up in Mumbai he completed an LLB from National Law College in Mumbai and joined the family business. The group was split in 1996 between Lachmandas Raheja’s sons Gopal Raheja (K Raheja Constructions), Chandru Raheja (K Raheja Corp. and Shoppers Stop Ltd) and Suresh Raheja (K Raheja Universal).
Under Chandru Raheja’s tutelage K Raheja Corp has grown from strength to strength and is today seen as a perfect example of a reputed, diversified construction company. Under his leadership, K Raheja Corp has built residences, residential complexes, commercial buildings and hotels throughout India. It was his outlook that led K Raheja Corp to develop Mindspace, and integrated self-contained township, at Malad, Mumbai. His foresight helped him develop Shoppers Stop, one of India’s largest chain of malls, much before the competition got into the act. He is generally accredited with the start of the retail boom in India.
Besides construction and retail the group is known for its hospitality ventures. Their partnerships with the Marriott and Sheraton chains has added to their expertise in this segment.
Mr. Raheja is married and has two children – Ravi and Neel Raheja, both are actively involved in the company and have their respective portfolio’s. Unfortunately for Mr Raheja his inclusion in the Forbes List of Billionaires has forced him into the front and centre of media attention.
