Madhya Pradesh (MP), the second largest state of the country, is one of the largest producers of cement and a leading producer of edible oil. Madhya Pradesh is an emerging industrial powerhouse. It is home to around 1,800 companies, 19 industrial growth centres and 171,000 small-scale industrial (SSI) units. The state is also home to major private infrastructure players like Essar, Jaypee Group and Reliance. It is also being considered for varied industrial investments. The Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) of Madhya Pradesh in 2004-05 was $24 billion. Its per capita income is also quite high at $369.
